Life is what you make it!

Hello on this steamy Friday Morning – the morning after the first full moon of 2017.  I didn’t get a chance to see it unfortunately as our sky was a stormy one last night hence the steamy morning but I sure have felt her energy.

I hope that the start of 2017 has been kind to you all.

I have been busy trying to get a little tidying done especially in my art room in preparation for a busy creative year ahead and to allow the new to flow more freely into my life.  Yesterday as the heat had me sweating like a pig and I reached a point of – almost done but I am pooped  I decided to take a little time out to PLAY.  The first new journal prompt over in the Australian Art Swap Group was inviting me to do just that – the prompt ‘JUST HAVE FUN’  So I reached for my large Dylusions Journal and using a couple of left over die cuts from projects last year found in my clean up I created my page getting a little messy with color to match the butterfly.   Now I have a little extra tidying up to return to.

just-for-fun-aasg-2017

The left over words are perfect to reflect on as we start the new year.  Life truly is what you make it!  You get to choose.  Choose what thoughts occupy your mind, who you wish to spend time with and how you wish to spend that time each and every day.

So what are you creating in your life right now and for the year ahead?

In numerology 2017 is a one year –  a time of new beginnings and each and every day you can start over if need be, so Dream Big and Be Brave and go after everything your heart desires this year as the energy truly will support you.

Making Friends with the Early Morning Muse

Happy New Year.  It’s been a while – a new year is upon us.  I have lots of news, but today it’s more of a story.  I wanted to talk to you about a muse – The Early Morning Muse.

Making her presence known in the wee hours of the morning usually somewhere between midnight and dawn, she started appearing many years ago when I had lots of things on my mind with work and was restless in my sleep.  She would help me make to do lists and the like,  she was always good at organising things in my head.  At times when I stepped outside of my comfort zone, felt fear but faced it anyway,  she would also appear offering similar to do lists and words of encouragement.

Now as our acquaintance has endured she is more of a creative confidant offering snippets of wisdom and opinion/advice.  And sometimes just sometimes  I think she visits simply because she has missed me.

Her presence reminds me of lyrics by Simon and Garfunkel –

“Hello darkness my old friend I have to come to talk to you again,  because a vision softly creeping left it’s seeds while I was sleeping.

And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains within the sound of silence.”

Over time I have learned that she is the planter of the seeds, the inspirer, she speaks the truth and of my heart’s desire.  She encourages me to test the boundaries and step out of my comfort.

She has appeared quite often of late.  Even though I have sought the acquaintance of such a muse in my waking hours it would appear that my muse, this muse of mine likes to shine her light more in the dark of night in the company of many a fleeting dream.

I willingly rise to greet her now with open arms and love in my heart no matter the hour.  I have learned to listen, feel, see and know her words, writing them down as she speaks to me.  Making a cherished record of each meeting in all it’s glory.  If I don’t her words become a faint memory lost to the night upon my waking

She is wise, she is love and all those things such as beauty and joy.  She is strength, She is courage, She is playful and free.  She is all those things I am and that I wish to be.

Her visits, some short and some long are often serenaded by the birds awakening to the light of day about to rise.  She is the Early Morning Muse and she is now a good friend.

She came to me last night and this is why I now find myself writing this post.  Her visit this time was perhaps because before going to bed I shared on facebook with my family and friends my first offering of 2017 combining all the things I  love.  I have called it a Mindfulness and Mixed Media Workshop and my first session as we kick off 2017  is going to focus on Manifesting and Mandalas with a few other practices thrown in.

My Early Morning Muse wanted to lend me her wisdom and give me her blessing, recognising my fear of putting myself out there with this.  Her message was gentle – You are safe to be seen!  Let your passion be your True North on the Compass of Life as it’s time to  go on a New Adventure.

#AASG30DAY Painting Challenge Day 1

Over in the Australian Art Swap Group they are holding a 30 Day Painting Challenge where you work on the same canvas for 30 days.  This means that each day you have to add something to the painting and it encourages the painter to not become attached which is similar to the teachings of Intuitive Artist Flora Bowley.

I decided to play along as I wanted to get into my painting a bit more and hubby actually brought me home a new canvas last week even though I told him I would simply go over an old one I wasn’t entirely happy with.  The one he brought home was huge bigger than any I have painted before so this would be a challenge in itself.

So today as I began painting and decided that for the 30 day challenge I would paint on two canvases.  The new one hubby brought which measures 36 inches x 36 inches and a smaller one (around 1/2 the size) which I painted over very roughly with black gesso allowing some of the old color show through.

Canvas 1

I began with some cool tones, my favorite blues and greens and roughly covered in the white space.  Then I went back for a second layer filling in some of the left over white space with Purple and Red.

This canvas is a bit too big for the easel, so the floor became my work surface.

A layer of some purple and red completed day 1 of painting.

Canvas 2

My rough coat of black gesso allowed some red, blue and green to show through from the previous painting, so I then took similar colors an added new detail.

I covered an old painting over with Black Gesso allowing some color to still show through.

I then added further red, green and blue to the gesso layer to finish my play on Day 1.

There is quite a few members playing along with this challenge so I encourage you to pop over to the Facebook Group or search the hashtag #aasg30day to see what everyone has been painting and I do hope you will pop back and follow my painting journey here throughout August also.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Pink – is it the Elephant in your Room?

This week over in the Australian Art Swap Group on facebook, one of the members started a photographic color challenge.  The criteria is simply to photograph the set color as you encounter it in your world or daily routine. The first color chosen was Hot Pink!  So I started to take stock of this color in my home and environment and I soon realized there was more of it then I first thought. This inquiry then lead me to think more about the meaning of this color.

Artwork (by Donna Sharam) in my home with Hot Pink.

Pink is one of those colors you either love it or hate it…….for me it is literally the elephant in my room, and one of my favorite colors.  I especially love it when it is paired with green which is exactly how nature loves it too.

water lilly

So what does pink say about you?  In a positive sense it is feminine, romantic, and nurturing and speaks of kindness and compassion.   It exudes confidence – well lets face you may need it to wear this color, especially Hot Pink.  It is playful and can also encourage action.

If you are feeling overburdened, you may find you are attracted to the color desiring a more carefree life, and happiness.

This color can aid depression, alleviate stress and reduce anger, aggression, grief and poor blood circulation.

Crystals that are pink in color such as Rose Quartz, relate to unconditional love, compassion, and the heart chakra.

In October Pink is widely recognized, used and celebrated as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Is there too much pink or not enough in your life?  This can be a sign of some of the negative aspects of this color which can include immaturity, lack of will power, low self esteem, being over emotional or naive.

Using pink for a little creative play and to brighten a wet day.

I think pops of pink are uplifting to the soul!  I love it teamed with Turquoise and Teal Tones, and Black and White too.

Taking stock of this color in my world, it literally was the elephant in my room (an artwork I purchased last year), Flowers in the garden and that I love to photograph, the cover of my diary, the drop sheet I use when I paint, my craft tote, and warm winter favorites – my bed socks, my fleece jumper and snuggy along with a few other ornaments and pieces of clothing that adorn my home and my body.

I am now looking forward to the next color challenge, to see where it takes me.

Stretching Wings and a Sacred Journey of Connection

Throughout April I was noticing all the beautiful monarch butterflies visiting our home and they shared a beautiful message and reminder with me.

‘Until you stretch your wings……..you’ll never know how far you can fly’.

So I set this as a kind of intention for the month and this is what I discovered.

When we dare to stretch our wings, try new things and chase our dreams, allowing ourselves to be vulnerable and out of our comfort zone we connect in such a sacred way with those people and things around us.

Divine timing and synchronicity saw both Rod and I this past week spend time once more in one of our favorite parts of the world – the beautiful Tweed Hinterland upon sacred indigenous land at Gunnebah Retreat connecting with Mother Gaia and over twenty beautiful souls as we shared a sacred journey to find our inner shamanka/shaman under the direction of Rachelle Charman from the Crystal Awakening Academy.

Excitingly we birthed our very own medicine drum, delved deeper into crystals and spent time holding space for one other as we learnt ancient rituals and healing techniques for mind, body and spirit completing Levels 1 and 2 of Crystal Shamanism.

It was a transforming six days of self awareness, a-ha moments and integration which included profound personal healing as well as learning how to help others on their healing journeys. These healings allowed me to reclaim my creative womb, my heart, and vision, and connect with both my power animal and crystal among other things.

We meditated, did yoga, embraced and danced with the four elements (fire, water, earth and air) and particularly special was a live intimate concert with Murray Kyle.  His conscious music and beautiful lyrics resonated deep in my heart and brought me to tears.

Since being guided to reclaim my vision I have had two nights of visions and dreams……..which last night upon my return home I was able to remember so vividly more than I have ever done with any dream before.  It had a powerful message in regards to my personal healing while the visions the night before I feel may have been more of a prediction of what is to come.  We’ll have to wait and see.

In myself I know I am now ready to more willingly seek my truth and speak my truth. Divine Messages such as the affirmation that I am a powerful creative visionary healer and artist came forward.    It also came with the suggestion that I paint it so I will hopefully get into the studio in the coming days to do just that.

It will no doubt take a little while for everything to sink in and integrate but right now I am just going with the flow and enjoying the feeling of my heart filled with so much love and gratitude it feels like it is about to explode.  This feeling and this part of my journey is something I will treasure always along with the new friendships made.

So I encourage you to spread your wings, because as the quote states that I paired with this image as it was the message coming to me – Until you Spread your Wings you will never know how far you can fly!

I’d love to hear how you stretched your wings recently and what wonderful connections you made so be sure to leave me a comment below.

A little Zen in the forest!

One of the places we visited while away last week was Natural Bridge in the Numinbah Valley in Queensland.  Upon our arrival you could hear the water running from the car park.   It was a rainy wet day but this didn’t deter us from doing the one hour walk through the forest and around the falls.

IMG_6576.JPG

Much to our surprise and our delight we discovered the Zen Stones that someone had carefully placed on the rocks along the creek.

At this time of day the glow worms in the cave weren’t visible but the water cascading over the bridge and the beautiful energy and surrounds of the forest were gift enough.

I am sharing this little bit of zen and lots of water with the following link ups.

Forgiveness, Family and a Funeral.

Forgiveness and some time away was the theme personally for me for the last part of February which was following along with some of the guidance I shared earlier last month while family and a funeral has been the focus for the start of March.

Forgiveness came up not only in the cards for our New Moon Reading back in February but a Forgiveness Mirror Exercise (based on the writings of Louise Hay) was one of the current assignments I had due as part of my Crystal Healing Studies.  There were a couple of people I chose to do this exercise for and surprisingly enough this past week I have witnessed the positive effects this activity has had on one relationship in particular.  A loving conversation (long overdue) was indicating the other person had a new perspective and understanding of both their actions and mine and lead to a change in the way we were both relating towards one another which has given me a little hope for the future which was not present at all this time last year.

At the end of last month Rod and I headed to the hills (Gold Coast Hinterland) for a little holiday.    We just love getting into the rain-forests of this area and the rain and not so great weather didn’t deter us.  In fact it added to the atmosphere with the water ways in full flow.

IMG_6561

We were able to get close to nature, with a huge amount of bird life surrounding our accommodation.  Every morning and upon returning to our rooms we were greeted by the Ducks, Cockatoos and Ibis.  It was my first time seeing the beautiful species of duck (the Plumed Whistling Duck) pictured above.  The grounds where we were staying provided many wonderful gifts from mother nature including a huge haul of feathers.

P1020578 (2)

On two of our days away we were honored to be able to spend time having sound and crystal healing sessions with the lovely Amanda and Danny at Heartsong Healing, Crystal, Sound and Energy Healing at Mt Tamborine.   It’s hard to explain this to any one who hasn’t experienced energy healing or spiritual attunements, so I will just say it was amazing from what I experienced throughout the session to how I felt afterwards.

Another highlight of our week was the most delicious seafood lunch at the Three Little Pigs Restaurant.  It would have to be one of the best meals I have ever had and the service was fabulous too.  Let’s just say my arm didn’t need any twisting to try their desserts after tasting the delicious main.  It’s probably the first time I have had dessert while dining out in a number of years.

A must of our holiday was to once again visit Chrissie at Crystal Mountain, one of our favorite Crystal Shops.  We came home with more beautiful treasures which we know we were destined to own.

Exploring new places was part of our holidays too, a visit to the Hinze Dam which we pass by often on our way to other places, allowed us to discover a beautiful spot to stop for a good coffee all while taking in a beautiful view.  I could have sat there all day savoring both the coffee and the beauty of our surrounds.

The sharing of energy with so many beautiful souls and with Mother Earth throughout the week was such a wonderful way to relax and recharge which I am so grateful for.

A catch up with one of my cousins had also been on the plans to conclude our holiday but sadly her dad passed away the night before and our catch up ended up being at his funeral yesterday in Brisbane instead.

This week family has been the main focus, spending time with my mother, father and sister most of the days this week.  This included Rod and I taking my mother and sister to a few of our favorite places, Brony’s Studio at Woodburn (I wanted some more of her beautiful art) and then Chinaman’s Beach at Evans Head to get a little sand between the toes.

A few days later we had a trip and overnight stay in Brisbane together.

It took the sad occasion of my uncle’s passing and his funeral bringing all the extended family together to emphasize the need for us all to make a bigger effort to stay in touch and catch up more regularly.  It also once again brought home that life is precious and time is short and the need to forgive and let those you love know that you do.

Love, Light and Blessings!

Like all quartz crystals it will amplify energy, so its a great choice to have placed throughout your home to enhance all types of relationship and interactions with others.  It will encourage compassion, self love, relieve stress, ease heartache, promote forgiveness and instill inner peace.

Resonating with and opening the heart chakra it is a great stone choice for balancing the emotions as it’s soothing energy assists to release repressed hurts and negativity.

If you are single and wish to find a romantic partner try placing a piece on your bedside table.

Rose Quartz is quite affordable, a wonderful jewelry choice, particularly to be worn close to the heart and would be one of my first stone suggestions to anyone just starting their crystal journey.

February a Month for Seeing Red!

Earlier this week I touched on the Chinese New Year and the COLOR red.  Red is definitely the appropriate color to focus further on this month as it is not only a color which symbolizes Good Fortune and Happiness for the Chinese, but also the color of passion and seduction associated with cupid and St Valentine’s Day.

Red is warm and energizing.  It can signify anger, danger and the need to stop, as well as courage.  It is the color of blood, and vitality,  and is also associated with the element of fire and the devil.

OUR CONNECTION

We all have a connection to the color of red through our body.

chakras-310119_1280

Red is the color which represents our Root/Base Chakra located at the base of our spine and pelvic floor.  This chakra is associated with our sense of security and survival and our connection to our physical body, environment, the earth, our ancestors, family and origins.

Keeping this chakra in balance helps keeps us grounded, mentally and emotionally stable.

Some signs that you may not be grounded include:

  • Feeling lightheaded, dizzy or spaced out.
  • Forgetfulness, losing or misplacing things
  • Feeling unwell, fatigued or lacking energy.
  • Sensitivity to light and noise
  • Feeling nervous or overstimulated.
  • Any ailment connected to our legs and kidneys, even feeling more comfortable sitting cross legged  can also be a sign that we are not grounded.
  • A dislike of this color, therefore it is not present in your environment at work or home, or your wardrobe

I posted a few days ago that connecting with the earth, ie.  walking barefoot on the grass, or at the beach can help us to ground, however we can also use CRYSTALS to aid us in grounding our energy.

CRYSTALS

The energies of both Red and Black Crystals are good for helping us to stay grounded.

Crystals that are red in color such as Red Jasper will help to give your energy a boost if you are feeling fatigued or lacking energy, while black crystals such as Black Obsidian are good if your energy needs to be calmed down when you are overstimulated.

You will find that black crystals are also often protective stones, which assist us in shielding our energy fields from negativity, electromagnetic pollution, physic attack and the like.

Each different type of crystal and color stone has a range of different attributes which when you start to utilize and work with them can energetically assist your well-being. That is why I love them and I hope to help introduce you to them some more over time here on the blog.

Today however we were talking about the color red.

MORE RED FACTS

Here’s a few more interesting facts about this color.

  1. Red was a widely used color pigment (iron oxides) used to paint on cave walls in pre-historic times while in early civilizations fabrics such as silk were dyed with pigments extracted from plants and insects.  Some of these methods are still used today.
  2. Only 1 – 2% of the world’s population are natural red heads.
  3. Red is the most popular colors used on flags with 77% of the world’s flags having red on them.
  4. About 8% of the world’s male population and 0.5% of the female population are color blind (have a vision deficiency) and can not visibly see this color correctly.
  5. In European Culture, red is the color used to describe an area of the city (district) that sells pornography and sex.
  6. Being known as a stimulating color it has been proven to elevate blood pressure and increase heart rates in some people while a flashing red light can cause convulsions in some people suffering from epilepsy.

RED THE COLOR OF LOVE

The main association to the Color Red in February is Valentine’s Day which is celebrated this coming Sunday.

From it’s religious beginnings celebrating one or more of the Christian Saints named Valentius, there has been many adaptions to the origins of St Valentine’s Day and many a tall tale told.  However it was first officially associated with Romance upon the conception of ‘Courtly Love’ in the Middle Ages. Originally conceived for the entertainment purposes of nobility the ideals behind ‘Courtly Love’  soon attracted a wider audience and developed into an occasion where people expressed their love for one another by the giving of gifts.and hand written notes/cards which were called valentines.

Today symbols of hearts, doves and winged cupids are used to mark this occasion and mass produced greeting cards have replaced the handwritten note.

rose-266785_640

A popular gift to give on this day are Red Roses which symbolize love and passion.  It is said that one rose symbolizes Love, a dozen signifies Gratitude while twenty five are given as Congratulations and fifty symbolize Unconditional Love.

It is a great blessing to be shown you are loved, but whether or not someone gives us roses on Valentine’s Day, it is important to remember that we all are loved and that we try wherever possible to live from a place of love – our hearts.

Love and Light to you all.

Oh I do like to be by the Seaside!

Today Rod and I ventured down to the sea – the nearby Dirawong Reserve and Chinamans Beach at Evans Head.  We got up before the sun rose to start our travels and set off in the predawn, overcast gloom as the flying foxes were making their path towards their home after a night of feasting.

P1020366 framed

The sun was struggling to break through the clouds………..however by the time we made it to the water (just under an hours drive) it was putting up a good fight and the light welcomed us onto the sand.

Mother Nature was calling us, with an important part of any spiritual practice being to ensure you are well grounded. Getting outdoors and stepping into nature is the perfect way to do this.  You should allow your bare feet to CONNECT with the earth beneath it, or in our case today it was both the sand and the salty waters of the Pacific.

In doing so your body will absorb the tranquil energy of the earth which assists to remove and transmute any built up stress that is present in your body (you may choose to sit, walk, stand or lay down)……..it’s all about having direct contact with the earth and the exchange of electrons. Some people (my husband is one of them) like to hug a tree for this same purpose.  Being conductive (absorbing) of the earth’s energy has a wonderful effect on your immune system too and if you choose to walk on the beach the pumice like grains of sand with not only soothe your soul but smooth your soles.

P1020384 framed

By the sea you can allow your soul to be cleansed by the crisp, clean salty air and mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the tide.  Meditating while listening to the sounds of the waves is said to flood your mind with memories of past lives and help put things in perspective.

For me stepping into nature is usually more about having my eyes open to enjoy the tantalizing textures and colors of both the flora and fauna offered up by Mother Nature with my camera at the ready.

P1020378 framed

Today we strolled from headland to headland, with the only observers of our presence being the seagulls.   Walking at a snails pace gave us plenty of time to study the treasures being gifted to the shore by the sea.  Shells, cuttlefish even the odd ocean tumbled stone, along with some seaweed and a feather made up this bounty.  Some of which accompanied us home to be looked upon and admired a little more and to be a later reminder to us of our wonderful escape to the sea.

P1020386 framed

Revitalized and with a grateful heart we returned home ready to take on the day.

Do you like to be by the sea, or is it the forest and the mountains that are your preferred place to venture when nature calls?
